Nitrous Oxide Sedation
One of the most important things you can do for your child is start them off with a positive feeling about dental care. If you had a bad experience with a dentist as a child, you know how it can affect your attitude about dentistry. At First Care Dental, we do everything possible to make your child’s visit with us as calm and pleasant as possible.
We Understand Children’s Needs
It takes a lot of experience with kids to really understand their unique needs. Dr. Jennifer Yen and Dr. Don Ton have been working with children for over 15 years and know how to put them at ease with compassion and a gentle approach.
An important thing we’ve learned over the years is that every child reacts differently to dental visits. One may find a trip to the dentist to be a fun adventure while another wants nothing to do with us. But it’s our job to make sure dental visits are fun for kids, no matter how they feel about the process at first.
Gentle Nitrous Oxide Sedation
As a parent, it’s hard to see your child struggle with dental visits. You know how important it is to see that they get the care they need, but the last thing you want is for them to feel unhappy or afraid.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be the solution your child needs to stay calm and comfortable through their appointment. We offer nitrous oxide for children over the age of three because it has proven to be a very safe and effective way to help them relax.
Nitrous oxide won’t put your child to sleep – they'll just smell a sweet aroma as they breathe through the comfortable mask. In no time at all, they'll feel a sense of well-being and relaxation. Nitrous oxide will just calm your child enough so that they don’t wiggle around, which can make things harder for them and also makes it difficult for us to do our job properly. With nitrous, they’ll get a little drowsy during the procedure but won’t feel any side effects afterward.
Our doctors are trained to provide safe nitrous oxide sedation, so you can trust that your child’s well-being is in good hands.
Other Ways to Help Your Child Relax
In-Hospital Sedation: This may sound a little intimidating, but in-hospital sedation is actually very effective for many kids who wouldn’t be able to get treatment otherwise. We may suggest in-hospital sedation performed on an outpatient basis with the assistance of an anesthesiologist on staff at the hospital. If your child won’t wear the nitrous mask, has special needs, or requires multiple procedures, this is a good alternative.
Your child can comfortably get the care they need and won’t remember anything about the procedure afterwards.
